IKO Underlayment & Deck Repair: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

IKO underlayment and deck repair in Fort Worth typically runs $350 to $900 for a standard repair section, with full underlayment replacement on a 2,000-square-foot roof landing between $3,800 and $6,500 installed. We stock IKO-compatible underlayment and decking materials on our trucks, so most repairs get done in a single visit. The usual way Fort Worth homeowners discover this problem is a leak near a valley or penetration, or a soft spot felt underfoot near the eaves after a hard North Texas rain.

IKO builds its roofing systems around specific underlayment pairings, and the decking beneath it takes a beating in our climate. Between the July heat baking the attic side and the spring hail hammering the shingle side, the underlayment and decking are the two layers that quietly do the real work. When they fail, the shingles above them don’t matter much.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

This repair guide covers underlayment and decking under IKO’s asphalt shingle lines, including Cambridge, Dynasty, Nordic, and Crowne Slate. The underlayment spec IKO requires depends on the shingle line and the roof’s slope. Cambridge and Dynasty installs typically pair with IKO’s RoofGard-Cool or StormShield synthetic underlayment, while Nordic and Crowne Slate specs often call for IKO’s ArmourGard ice-and-water shield in valleys and at eaves.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most Fort Worth homeowners hit: IKO’s premium shingle warranties are tied to the full IKO system, not just the shingles. That means the underlayment has to match the shingle spec. If a previous roofer laid a generic #15 felt under IKO Dynasty shingles, the shingle warranty paperwork is already compromised. When we do a deck repair under an IKO roof, we confirm what’s currently down there before we quote. If it’s the wrong underlayment for the shingle line, we tell you plainly, because that changes the repair scope.

On the decking side, IKO doesn’t make its own OSB or plywood. What matters is thickness and condition. Fort Worth code requires minimum 7/16-inch decking for 24-inch rafter spacing, but we see plenty of 3/8-inch from 1980s-era homes in Wedgwood and Ridglea. That thinner decking gets spongy faster once underlayment fails and moisture gets in. We won’t put new underlayment over compromised decking. We cut it out and replace it with CDX plywood or AdvanTech OSB, matched to the existing thickness.

OEM vs aftermarket: For underlayment, we recommend staying with IKO-branded synthetic or StormShield where the shingle warranty matters to you. For decking, IKO has no OEM product, so we use top-tier structural panels and don’t split hairs over brand names. The panel is only as good as its dryness and fastener schedule anyway.

Signs Your IKO Underlayment & Deck Repair Is Failing

  • Water stains on ceilings or walls near exterior edges. This is the most common first sign in Fort Worth, and it means water has already made it through the underlayment. The stain usually appears days after a storm, not during it, because water moves slowly through the decking before it drips.
  • Soft or spongy spots on the roof deck. If you can feel deflection when walking the roof, the decking has absorbed moisture. OSB swells and loses structural strength permanently once it’s been wet. It doesn’t dry back to original condition.
  • Shingles lifting at corners or edges. Underlayment failure lets wind-driven rain get under the shingles from below. The shingles look fine from the ground, but the seal strip has lost its grip because the surface beneath is no longer stable.
  • Granules collecting in gutters in heavier amounts. IKO shingles shed granules as they age, but excessive granule loss near eaves suggests water is moving underneath the shingle layer, accelerating wear from the underside.
  • Visible underlayment in the attic. If you’re in the attic and can see torn felt, sagging synthetic, or daylight through cracks in the decking, the barrier is already breached. By this point, the repair is no longer optional.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what IKO underlayment and deck repair runs in Fort Worth, based on the jobs we’ve priced across Tarrant County:

  • Small deck patch and underlayment repair (single valley or penetration): $350 to $600
  • Full underlayment replacement on a accessibile section (500 – 800 sq ft): $1,200 to $2,400
  • Full roof underlayment replacement, 2,000 sq ft roof: $3,800 to $6,500
  • Decking replacement, per 4×8 sheet: $85 to $140 per sheet, installed
  • Decking replacement on a roof with widespread rot: $2,000 to $5,000 depending on how many sheets come up

The range moves on three things: how much decking is compromised, what underlayment the shingle line requires, and whether the roof pitch requires harness work. We don’t change the price once we’ve put it on paper. The written estimate includes parts, labor, tear-off of the failed material, haul-away, and a one-year guarantee in writing through our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a repair fails within that year, we come back at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do: inspect from inside the attic with a flashlight, look for water stains on the decking underside, and check your gutters for excessive granules. You can also visually inspect from the ground for lifted shingles or missing pieces after a storm.

What you shouldn’t do: pull shingles to peek at underlayment without the right tools and fasteners, or walk a roof with soft spots. A compromised deck is a fall risk. And here’s the thing about underlayment repair, it only works if you get the lap direction right, seal the seams correctly, and re-nail the shingles to code. Get the lap wrong and you’ve built a water funnel. We’ve fixed plenty of DIY underlayment repairs across Fort Worth where the material was fine but the install turned a $400 repair into a $2,000 deck replacement. If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, call (682) 900-7902 and we’ll walk it.

Travis Oakley covers Fort Worth personally on most calls. He walks every roof himself before we quote. As he puts it on the job site: “Tell me what the roof is doing – we’ll figure out what it needs.”
