CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible ridge vent on a routine basis across Fort Worth, and a typical full replacement runs $450 to $900 installed on a standard single-story home, with most jobs completed the same day we start. Ridge vents fail quietly: homeowners usually find out after a hot attic spikes the electric bill, a hard rain leaves water stains near the ceiling peak, or they climb up and see cracked, brittle plastic where the vent should sit solid along the ridge line. Once the vent body cracks or the weather stripping pulls away, your attic stops breathing properly. That means heat and moisture sit up there and start working on your decking, your insulation, and eventually your shingles.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

The CertainTeed line breaks into two main families: the Cedar Ridge/Snow Country rigid vent series and the roll-form ShingleVent II. The ShingleVent II comes in 20-foot rolls and is the one we see most often on Fort Worth homes built or reroofed in the last ten to fifteen years. The Cedar Ridge is a rigid 4-foot panel system, and it shows up on higher-end builds and custom remodels. The compatibility gotcha most homeowners miss: CertainTeed’s older roll vent used a narrower nail flange than the current ShingleVent II, so you can’t just swap one for the other without checking the nail line and the end-cap profile. If the old vent is a roll-form product and the flange measures under 1-1/4 inches, aftermarket equivalents do not line up cleanly and you get a loose, flapping edge in the first strong north wind. We check the stamped markings on the underside of the vent before anything gets ordered, because guessing at the flange width is how ridge vents end up leaking at the corners. For Fort Worth homes, we also carry quality aftermarket equivalents that match the ShingleVent II profile when the CertainTeed part is backordered, but we tell you which one we’re quoting so there’s no surprise on the final paperwork.

Signs Your CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Cracked or chalky plastic along the ridge. North Texas sun does a number on exposed vent bodies. Once UV has bleached the plastic to a chalky white and you can see hairline cracks forming, water will find the cracks before the next hail season does.
  • Water stains on the ceiling near the peak. This is the symptom that gets people on the phone. A proper ridge vent sheds water over the shingle cap, but a failed end cap or pulled-away adhesive lets wind-driven rain slip under the vent body and travel down the rafters.
  • Attic temperature spikes in the afternoon. A working ridge vent pulls hot air out the top. When the vent collapses or gets clogged with dust and blown debris, the attic stops moving air and the heat just sits there, cooking the underside of the roof deck.
  • Visible gaps between the vent and the shingles. Heat expands the vent body and cold contracts it. Over five or six Fort Worth winters, the nails that held it tight back out slightly, and you’ll see the vent lifting off the shingle line in places. That gap is an open channel for wind-driven rain.
  • Shingle granules piling up in the gutter near the ridge. If your ridge vent has been failing for a while, the excess attic heat accelerates shingle wear from underneath. Granule loss near the peak usually means the ventilation problem has been going on longer than anyone realized.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full CertainTeed ridge vent replacement in Fort Worth runs $450 to $900 installed on most single-story homes. Two-story homes and steep-pitch roofs run higher, usually $700 to $1,100, because of the additional setup and fall-protection work. The range is driven by three things: how many linear feet of ridge the home has, whether we’re replacing just the vent or also the shingle caps over it, and whether the old decking underneath needs spot repair before the new vent goes down. We pull the old vent, inspect the decking along the ridge line, replace any rotted sections, install the new vent with proper end caps and weather stripping, and reset the shingle caps over it. You get the price on paper before any work starts, and it does not move at the door. Every ridge vent install is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: in writing for one full year, and if it fails during that period, we come back out at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a ridge vent is not spring work. It’s not high-tension danger like a garage door spring, but it is full roof height work on a ridge line, which is exactly where a fall hurts. You can safely check a few things yourself from the ground or a ladder: look for cracked plastic, visible gaps, and stains on the underside of the roof deck in the attic. What goes wrong with DIY is the details: nailing through the vent flange into the decking without hitting rafters, getting the end caps sealed so wind-driven rain can’t enter, and matching the right nail pattern for the vent profile. If the old vent was installed with the wrong nail line to begin with, you’ll put the new one right back into the same holes and the same problem. Our crews walk the roof, check the decking by hand, and give you a straight answer on whether a full replacement or a trim-and-reseal is the right call.
